What Is Fear?

FEAR

Fear rarely announces itself.

It does not always arrive as panic.

Sometimes it appears as hesitation.

Sometimes as doubt.

Sometimes as the voice that whispers:

“Wait a little longer.”

“What if it doesn’t work?”

“What will people think?”

And before we realize it, years have passed.

The opportunity was never lost.

It was postponed.

Again and again.

The strange thing about fear is that it often creates the very life it is trying to prevent.

Fear of rejection keeps us from love.

Fear of failure keeps us from trying.

Fear of judgment keeps us silent.

Fear of loss keeps us from embracing what is already here.

Perhaps fear is not the locked door.

Perhaps fear is the voice convincing us not to reach for the handle.

The truth is that courage is not the absence of fear.

Courage is moving forward while fear is still speaking.

One step.

One decision.

One action.

Because on the other side of fear is often the life we have been waiting to live.
